DP Medical continues growth in Ireland

DP Medical Company News Leave a comment

Leading medical supplies company, DP Medical, has made a move into Ireland with a key appointment.

Thomas Cryan (31), from Dublin, is the Surrey-based firm’s new sales and service manager covering both the North and Republic of Ireland. His previous role was a sales position in the medical industry. Prior to this he also worked as a service engineer.

Reflecting the increasing amount of work being undertaken in the Irish market, this is the first time DP Medical has had a dedicated member of staff overseeing operations in Ireland but it is hoped the new role will enhance both the service offered to Irish customers and also develop further new business opportunities.

Thomas Cryan said: “I am really pleased to be joining the DP Medical team which I can already see is a very well organised and professional organisation. The company provides top quality medical equipment and has a real enthusiasm for providing the highest levels of customer care.

“I am looking forward to improving the customer experience within Ireland and offering greater levels of support to them as well as establishing valued relationships with our clients, both old and new. “

Rob Atkinson, managing director of DP Medical, said: “We have been working with a number of organisations in Ireland for many years now and we really felt it was a market that could grow further for us.

“The appointment of Thomas allows us to have a dedicated member of our team covering both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to help ensure we are providing the best possible service to our Irish customers base but also to seek out further opportunities so we can continue to grow and develop as a business.

“We are delighted to welcome Thomas to the team at what is a really exciting time for us as we look to firmly establish ourselves as a leading healthcare supplies company in the UK, Ireland and beyond.”

Dentistry Show goes Global!

DP Medical Company News Leave a comment

The British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show is being held on the 17th and 18th of May at the NEC in Birmingham, and is always one of the highlights of our events calendar. And this year is certainly no different! However, the 2019 show will be extra special for us, as joining us to exhibit will be Jeff Metcalf, International Sales Manager for our dental partner Global Surgical Corporation. Here, in our latest guest blog, Jeff gives us an insight into his role with American-based Global Surgical, how the company works with DP Medical here in the UK, and why he is looking forward to attending the Dentistry Show so much.

I have been with Global Surgical Corporation (Global) for 16 years.  As International Sales Manager, I am responsible for all sales outside of the United States. I manage a large worldwide network of distributors, independent manufacturer representatives, and Regional Sales Managers.  I really love my job, because I get to meet many people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Global makes fantastic products that I truly believe in.  We also have exceptional customer service, which is emphasised throughout the whole organisation from the top down.

Design for dentists

Global microscopes are specifically designed for dentists. We have the widest field of view on the market, bar none. This allows dentists to see a full-mouth view, which is very helpful in many aspects of dentistry. All of our microscopes are modular in design, so you can start with a basic microscope and add components at any time in the future. The accessories we make today work on the microscopes we manufactured 25 years ago.  Our microscopes are equipped with a 100,000 Lux LED lightsource, which comes with an unheard-of three-year warranty.  All of our cameras are externally mounted so you can always change to the latest technology without having to go through extensive costs to replace internal cameras. This is truly a lifetime product, compared to products that you have to replace to upgrade to the latest technology available. In addition to the great features of the microscope, we only partner with distributors who offer great customer service, as so many companies disappear after the initial sale. Owning a Global product means support is just a phone call away.  It doesn’t matter how old your microscope is, we will support you like it was bought yesterday.

Successful partnerships

DP Medical Systems (DP) is one of our oldest partners. They have been extremely successful, because they have the same philosophy as Global. Customer service is their priority and they sell quality products at fair prices. Their service department has been factory-trained and they do everything including installations, maintenance, and service.  DP representatives can solve any concern that the customer might have. I wish all my partners were like DP, who consistently rank in the top tier of performance for Global’s worldwide distributors.

Customer feedback

I am looking forward to attending the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show because it gives me the opportunity to meet with current and future customers.  Listening and responding to customer feedback and requests fuelled Global’s success. It also gives me the opportunity to work closely with our partners at DP, and observe the obstacles and opportunities they face.   It also allows me to share trends that I see outside of the UK. If you’re attending the event, please come and see us at stand J94.

The training event, organised by the adult SLT department at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, focused on excellence in practice and include the anatomy and physiology viewed on flexible nasendoscopy, indication/contraindication and safety, how to do the FEES examination well, and practical scoring and interpretation practice.

DP Medical Company News Leave a comment

DP Medical Systems is celebrating after achieving a record high turnover during 2018.

The Surrey-based organisation continued its development recording double digit growth for the third consecutive year. In addition, each division of the company including dental, hospital and services, has grown substantially over the period.

Rob Atkinson, managing director of DP Medical, said: “We’re delighted to have achieved such strong figures in 2018 which is testament to the hard work and dedication of our whole team.

“The last twelve months has seen some really exciting advancements for us including our second commitment deal with the NHS Supply Chain which allows us to offer our KAPS Microscopes and Colposcopes to all NHS trusts at a discounted rate with immediate delivery. This helps hospitals, not only from a cost perspective, but also in time as they can have the scopes installed immediately, as opposed to an average six-eight week lead time. NHS Supply Chain plays a huge part in the NHS purchasing routes and we are really pleased our partnership with them continues to grow.

“In addition, our XION product range continues to grow its market share within the ENT sector which has been a major part of our success over the last year. And our decision in 2017 to remove loupes from our dental range has allowed our sales team to focus on the market leading Global Microscope which has resulted in increased sales across the UK.

“We’re really excited to announce that due to these developments we will be expanding our team early this year within our software department, and following increased sales in Ireland, we will also be appointing a service engineer to cover that

area of our market.

“2019 is all set to be another good year for us as we look to increase our staff numbers and build on the exceptional service we’re known for.”

DP Medical Systems, which employs 23 people, sells ENT, dental, gynaecology and forensic medical equipment to the NHS and private users.

DP Medical Company News Leave a comment

Leading medical supplier DP Medical has joined forces with the Ear Academy to deliver some brand new ear care training to audiologists from across the UK.

The aural microsuction training course was held at Charing Cross NHS Trust in Greater London, which is associated with the Imperial College.  The two-day course covered an ample amount of theory around aural care as well as practical experience with 102 ears with multiple otological conditions available for the trainees to observe and have hands on involvement with.

Dr Mohammed Al-khateeb, consultant audiologist and Ear Care Academy trainer, said: “The courses were an enormous success and we got some great feedback from those who took part particularly around the amount of hands on practice they had on real ears, the theory elements covered, the level of experience the trainers had and the quality of aural care products from DP Medical that were used.

“DP Medical added great value to the training course by the level of representation and technical support they had over both  days especially the quality and quantity of microscopes with LCD screens supplied for training and educational purposes. Trainees were really impressed with the SOMRON microscopes especially from those who used other microscope brands in the past. The SOMRON microscopes are cost effective with high quality magnifications, robust handling and manoeuvres and are spot on and fit for purpose if you are planning to set up aural care clinics.”

Owen Pemberton, commercial director at DP Medical, said: “We were thrilled to partner with Ear Care Academy for their first event.  We found the content and level of interaction with the delegates first class – we are very much looking forward to March’s event.”

The next aural microsuction training course is on the 2nd and 3rd of March 2019. Spaces are limited so to book your place please visit www.earcareacademy.co.uk. Owen hits the road for CLEFT!

DP Medical Company News Leave a comment

This summer DP Medical’s Owen Pemberton will take part in the Prudential RideLondon cycling event, taking on the 100 mile course to raise money for the charity CLEFT.

Owen is supporting CLEFT after working with Great Ormond Street Hospital and key consultants including Honorary Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Brian Sommerlad who is also the Chair of CLEFT, through his role with DP Medical.

A cleft is a birth defect which can leave children suffering from speech and hearing problems. There may be a cleft (split) just of the lip, just of the palate, or both. They can be one-sided (unilateral) or double-sided (bilateral).

Owen said: “I became aware of the charity through my work and learned of the worthwhile projects that CLEFT run throughout the world.

“Having had the benefit of meeting some of the amazing consultants, such as Brian, who donate their own time and expertise to help those who don’t have access to the medical care for their conditions, I felt empowered to help raise funds for these projects.

“The charity has run recent trips to Bangladesh, Uganda, Sri Lanka and Egypt where they have helped countless children – and have set themselves a target of raising £275,000 for an MRI scanner.”

This is why he has decided to take on the gruelling 100 mile cycling challenge, with the aim of raising £1,000 for the cause.

On Sunday 29 July Owen, along with a few other riders supporting the same charity, will set off from London’s Olympic Park and follow much of the same route that the likes of Bradley Wiggins, Lizzie Deignan and Mark Cavendish tackled during London 2012.

He will head out into the punishing Surrey hills before coming back into London for a grand finish on the Mall.

Owen added: “I have completed a few bike rides in the past but this will be by far the furthest I have cycled in one day.

“Any donations no matter how small will be greatly appreciated and will keep those legs pedalling along.”

Brian Sommerlad, chairman of CLEFT and plastic surgeon, said: “I am delighted that Owen is cycling Ride London for CLEFT. I wish him well in the event and in reaching his target of raising £1,000 for the charity. This will benefit children born with clefts in many parts of the world.”

DP Medical has supported CLEFT on its trips overseas, including earlier this year by providing an endoscope at a reduced price which has enabled a team in Bangladesh to investigate the palate function of patients whose speech is unsatisfactory.

We offer Owen our full support during his challenge! And you can donate to the cause here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?pageId=927447
