Owen clocks up the charity miles with coast to coast cycle challenge

DP Medical’s commercial director, Owen Pemberton, has been back in the saddle for another charity challenge recently.

Owen, who recently completed his first ever triathlon to raise funds for The Schinzel-Giedion Syndrome Foundation, got back on his bike and joined a team of eight to cycle 265km from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay in aid of Dementia UK and Martin House Children’s Hospice.

Despite bad weather, poor light and enormous hills, the team managed to complete the ride in just two days, surpassing their fundraising target to raise more than £2,000 for the charities.

Owen said: “The coast to coast bike ride was without doubt one of the toughest challenges I have done to date, and I’m very proud that we managed to not only complete it but that we passed our fundraising target, too.

“The first day was hampered with bad weather and due to the wet conditions our speed was very much reduced, meaning we had to eventually call it a day after 100km - about 65km short of our target,

“However, we were up at the crack of dawn the next day to get back on the road and, thankfully, the drier conditions allowed us to catch up with our schedule, meaning we reached Robin Hoods Bay just after 5pm.

“The sun was shining and the view at the end of the ride was like a postcard. We all feel a massive sense of achievement and we’re thrilled to have raised funds for such vital causes, too.”

There’s still time to donate towards Owen’s Coast to Coast fundraising challenge. For further information, visit: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=Coast2CoastIn2days&isTeam=true
