DP Medical Systems Ltd, is bringing a groundbreaking, non-occlusive airway dilation balloon to the UK market.
The device, called ‘The Trachealator’, can be used on both adults and children for treating airway stenosis and allows continuous ventilation in patients, thanks to its innovative design and construction.
Manufactured by South African-based Disa Medinotec (Pty) Ltd and distributed in the UK exclusively by DP Medical, the Trachealator non-occlusive airway dilation balloon features a cluster of balloons that expand at a high-pressure rating (RBP 12 atm) around a central open channel.
The award-winning device re-folds easily for extraction, has markers for visual and radiographic positioning and, with a working length of 650mm, it can be inserted through a rigid bronchoscope. A guidewire is included on all units.
Owen Pemberton, commercial director at DP Medical, said: “We’re very proud to be introducing the pioneering Trachealator non-occlusive airway dilation balloon to the market, where it will no doubt be well received by ENT practitioners and surgeons treating airway stenosis.
“Traditional dilation balloon catheters completely obstruct the patient’s airway when inflated, whereas the non-occlusive device has been cleverly designed to allow for continual ventilation during airway stenosis treatment.
“Airway stenosis is a very serious, life-threatening condition and the procedure – although common – is challenging. The Trachealator will help medical professionals carry out the treatment easier and quicker, without compromising patient safety and ventilation.”
The Trachealator, which won Gold at the 2021 Medical Design Excellence Awards, is available for demonstration and purchase now, through DP Medical Systems Limited.
