One hundredth VOIS implant case completed

One hundred patients across the UK and Ireland have now benefited from an innovative vocal implant system designed to treat glottic insufficiency with voice and swallowing disorders.

DP Medical Systems Ltd, the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor of the ‘VOIS Implant’ technology, announced the milestone after completing the 100th case at the end of May 2025 at The London Clinic.

Designed for treatment of glottic insufficiency and unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP), the implant, created by the Austrian-Taiwanese company APrevent®, is used in type I thyroplasty procedures to improve voice and life quality. The implant system achieves a complete closure of the glottic gap by medialisation of the paralysed vocal fold in its full length.

Owen Pemberton, managing director at DP Medical Systems, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have completed our 100th VOIS implant case, working closely with many amazing teams at hospitals across the UK and Ireland to help patients reap the benefits of this pioneering system.

“It’s a technology we’re confident will continue to make waves in the ENT space, due to the discontinuation of the traditional silastic block implant that has been commonly used for the type I thyroplasty.

“We’re excited to be working with APrevent® and in particular, the company’s co-founder and CEO, Dr. Guan-Min Ho, who’s played a pivotal part in the success of these surgical cases.”

DP Medical was named the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for APrevent® VOIS implant in 2022.

Dr. Guan-Min Ho, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the clinical success of the VOIS implant here in the UK and Ireland, following our partnership with DP Medical Systems. I look forward to continuing our work with the team and expanding the reach of the implant into even more hospitals across the country.”
